MK Pilates Matwork Diplomas

The MK Pilates Matwork Diplomas present two tiers of teacher training: Silver and Gold Elite. This comprehensive training combines in-person and online learning, without demanding formal qualifications other than practical experience in Pilates and a dedication to its practice. Teachers are afforded the flexibility to commence with the Silver Diploma and later advance to the Gold Elite level

SILVER DIPLOMA

The Silver Diploma focuses on foundation, intermediate, and advanced group exercises, including personal training with small equipment, designed for those new to the industry or looking to build confidence and knowledge.

  • Duration: 6-12 months

  • Sections: Foundation Group, Intermediate & Advanced Group, and Personal Training 1:1 with small equipment.

  • Format: 12 days of face-to-face tutor-led time, home study, personal practice, and assessment processes.

  • Objective: Ideal for newcomers to the industry or those not requiring UK Level 3 certification, aiming to build confidence and knowledge for teaching in any environment.

GOLD ELITE DIPLOMA

The Gold Elite Diploma aligns with the SPM Pilates Matwork Standard, covering additional subjects like special populations and functional anatomy, requiring more case studies for a comprehensive understanding. .

  • Standard: Meets the new SPM (Society for the Pilates Method) Pilates Matwork Standard.

  • Coverage: More hours and subjects including Special Populations, Small Equipment, and Functional Anatomy days.

  • Requirements: More case studies for clients on a One to One basis. Completion makes you eligible for the Register of SPM Teachers.

  • Entry Requirements: Practical experience of Pilates Matwork and a strong desire and belief in Pilates.

Stage One

  • Objective: Provides foundational training for those new to teaching Pilates or seeking to deepen their understanding.

  • Content: Covers the essence and goals of Pilates movements, muscle initiation, sequencing, and fundamental repertoire adjustments for beginner to mixed ability levels.

  • Duration and Format: 4 days of face-to-face instruction, supplemented by self-study, workbook completion, and practical teaching hours.

  • Hours Summary: 32 lecture hours, 18 hours for self-study and workbook completion, 20 hours of class attendance, totaling 70 teacher development hours.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge in:

  • Understanding of Pilates Movement Essentials: Grasp the essence and goals of Pilates exercises, focusing on muscular initiation and sequencing.

  • Fundamental Repertoire Mastery: Breakdown of fundamental repertoire for beginner and mixed-ability levels, ensuring proper execution.

  • Teaching Skills Development: Cultivate skills in class design, exercise variations, modifications, and effective communication including verbal cueing and imagery.

  • Health and Safety Awareness: Document understanding of health and safety/emergency issues relevant to Pilates teaching.

  • Preparation for Teaching: Engage in practice teaching with feedback to prepare for the summative assessment

Stage two

  • Objective: Advance instructors' knowledge with over 34 Pilates movements, modifications, and variations.

  • Content: Learn original movements, transitions, stretching, class formatting, and develop a movement rating system.

  • Duration and Format: 4 days face-to-face instruction, supported by self-study, workbook activities, and teaching practice.

  • Hours Summary: Includes 32 hours of direct instruction, supplemented by 18 hours dedicated to self-study and workbook exercises, and 20 hours of class participation, leading to a total of 70 hours dedicated to the development of advanced teaching skills.

  • Master over 34 original Pilates movements, modifications, and variations.

  • Deepen understanding of Pilates principles, muscle work, and movement sequencing.

  • Learn effective class formatting and transitions tailored to various abilities.

Stage three

  • Objective: This course equips participants to proficiently guide clients through beginner to advanced Pilates in a one-to-one personal training environment, enriching their teaching toolkit with comprehensive strategies and techniques.

  • Content: Participants will delve into advanced Pilates repertoire, specific one-to-one modifications, and progression strategies. The course emphasizes anatomy and physiology, postural assessment, programme design, and client screening techniques. It also introduces small Pilates-based equipment, enhancing the adaptability and effectiveness of Pilates sessions.

  • Duration and Format: The training is conducted over four 8-hour days of face-to-face instruction. This is complemented by online resources for anatomy and physiology refreshers, extensive self-practice recommendations, and the completion of detailed case studies.

  • Hours Summary: Comprising 32 hours of in-person instruction, the course suggests an additional 40 hours of practice time (excluding case studies). It also involves the development of a comprehensive portfolio documenting case studies, culminating in a total of over 70 hours dedicated to advancing teaching proficiency and client management skills.
