Pilates Self Care Saturday: Your Nature Prescription

This weekend, instead of pushing through your to do list or squeezing in one more Pilates class, what if your self care prescription was simple?
Step outside.
In our world of screens, studios, and schedules, many of us forget the profound reset that nature offers. Whether it is the local park, a coastal walk, or even your own back garden, spending time outdoors is one of the most effective and underused self care tools we have.
Why It Matters
We often focus on the internal landscape, breath, centre, alignment, but the external environment we are in plays a huge role in regulating the nervous system. Natural light, fresh air, varied terrain underfoot, all these elements inform our proprioception, stimulate the fascia, and calm the sympathetic nervous system.
And let us not forget the shift in energy. A short walk in silence can bring clarity in a way no scroll on Instagram ever could.
How to Make It Work
You do not need hiking boots or a mountain trail. Just 10 to 15 minutes in a natural space, away from concrete and cars, is enough to feel the difference.
Try this
Mindful walking – feel your feet, notice your breath, observe without needing to change
Sit with nature – find a bench or patch of grass, close your eyes, and simply be
Move outdoors – take your spine warm up outside. Cat cow, shoulder rolls, or a gentle standing twist
A Tip for Pilates Teachers
Encourage your clients to do the same. Remind them that wellbeing is not always another workout or another stretch. Sometimes it is less that brings more.
This weekend, get outside, not to perform, but to restore. Nature is the original studio.
