A mindful walk through snow, embracing self-care and rejuvenation in the crisp winter air

Yes ! we all know some of these points but it helps reminding us of them all of them. Managing stress and keeping our energy levels high is vital for Pilates teachers. Also after yesterdays epic storm if you inside all day really use number 6 today. But in general between classes, client sessions, and our own practice, it can sometimes feel like we are running on empty. Let us explore some simple but effective ways to beat tiredness and find balance in our daily routines.

1. Prioritise Sleep

Getting enough quality sleep is essential for managing energy levels. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night and establish a bedtime routine to help you wind down. Avoid screens an hour before bed, dim the lights, and maybe enjoy a calming tea before sleep.

2. Stay Hydrated

Dehydration is often a hidden cause of fatigue. Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day, especially when you are teaching multiple classes. Herbal teas or water infused with fresh fruits can also be refreshing alternatives to plain water.

3. Eat for Sustained Energy

Nutrition plays a key role in how we feel. Focus on eating balanced meals with complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and lean protein to keep energy levels steady. Snack on nuts, seeds, or a piece of fruit to stay energised between sessions.

4. Move Your Body

Even as movement professionals, we sometimes neglect our own practice. Incorporate small stretches or a few Pilates exercises into your day to keep your body awake and refreshed. Something as simple as a roll-down or side stretches can work wonders.

5. Take a Breathing Break

Breathing is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reset. Try diaphragmatic breathing or an extended exhale technique when you feel stressed or tired. These simple exercises calm the nervous system and recharge your energy.

6. Get Outside

Fresh air and natural light are fantastic energy boosters. Step outside for a few minutes between classes or take a short walk. Natural light helps regulate your circadian rhythm and improves your mood, giving you a much-needed lift.

7. Stay Social

Connecting with friends or colleagues can help combat mental fatigue. A quick chat or laugh can lift your spirits and give you the motivation to tackle the rest of your day.

8. Tune Into Your Body

As Pilates teachers, we encourage our clients to listen to their bodies. Do the same for yourself. If you are feeling particularly drained, take time to rest, eat something nourishing, or enjoy a short meditation.

9. Practice Gratitude

Take a moment to focus on what you are grateful for. It can be as simple as appreciating a lovely class you just taught or the quiet moments you find in between. Gratitude helps shift our mindset and reduce feelings of stress.

10. Share and Learn

Discuss your experiences with fellow teachers or clients. Sharing tips and learning from others can inspire fresh ideas and keep you motivated. Remember, we are all in this together.
