Pilates Wellness Wednesday: How Smart Are We Really?

Power up your mind – explore intelligence, imagery, and self-discovery in our latest blog
Spark your curiosity this Wellness Wednesday with a brain-boosting IQ test adventure.

This week for Pilates Wellness Wednesday we’re doing something a little different. We’re talking about IQ. Now I have to admit I’ve made it through my whole life never actually knowing my IQ score. You hear about it all the time though don’t you? Steve Jobs, Einstein, various geniuses, all apparently boasting these incredible numbers. But for the rest of us mere mortals, is it even important to know? Well, curiosity got the better of me.

I found an online test and yes, I’ll share the link with you at the end of this blog. It’s a very visual test, no complicated maths, no calculus, just pattern recognition, images, and working out sequences. I saw it more like a speed test really, so I just jumped in and did it fast without overthinking.

At the end of the test, you can get your result and a certificate if you want. You do have to skip quite a lot of extra things they're trying to sell you along the way. It’s a bit of a "click, skip, skip, skip" exercise but the final result is only £1 so I thought, why not?

When all was said and done, my score came out at 117 which, according to the internet, is above average. Not Einstein level so no Nobel Prize for me this year. But I was actually quite pleased. It was a fun way to challenge the brain a bit and reminded me how little we often measure certain things about ourselves, especially as adults.

Pilates Teachers: Is it important to know your IQ? Well I think it’s a bit like any other measurement. It's one piece of the puzzle. IQ tests look at certain types of reasoning and problem-solving, but they don't measure creativity, emotional intelligence, resilience, or practical life skills. All of which are just as important, if not more so. That said, doing the test was a bit of a mental workout and I love any excuse to challenge the brain.

So on this Wellness Wednesday we're giving our minds a little nudge. If you want to try it yourself, here’s the link: https://myiq.com/start

If you do take the test, I’d love you to share with me what score you get. Remember, it’s just a bit of fun, not a full psychological profile. And just like with physical fitness, there are so many types of intelligence that a single number could never really define us.

Happy testing and happy Wellness Wednesday!
