Hello to all my Pilates colleagues! It's Michael here on this Thoughtful Tuesday, sharing insights that blend the art of Pilates with the universal language of laughter, inspired by experiences from my travels and beyond.


Inspirational Mornings in India

One of the most memorable aspects of my time in India, along with Malcolm, were our morning walks. It was during these walks that we discovered the enchanting practice of laughing yoga. Watching groups immersed in laughter, I was struck by the unifying power of this simple act. It wasn't just an exercise; it was a communal celebration of joy.


Laughter: A Universal Phenomenon

Interestingly, laughter isn’t exclusively human; it's a universal language shared across many mammals. This shared experience highlights laughter's fundamental role in social bonding and communication, extending beyond cultural and species barriers.


The Science of Laughter in Pilates

In Pilates, laughter takes on a special significance. When we laugh, our diaphragm and abdominal muscles engage in spontaneous, rhythmic contractions. This process temporarily disrupts our breathing patterns, leading to a unique form of rhythmic breathing that can enhance lung capacity and oxygen exchange – aspects that are at the heart of our Pilates practice.


Social Harmony Through Laughter

The social dimension of laughter, so vividly experienced in India, is invaluable in our Pilates classes.
