As we have arrived at Christmas, it's a time for reflection, connection, and celebration. For many, it’s a deeply religious moment, marking the birth of Christ and all that represents. For others, it’s more about gathering with loved ones, sharing kindness, and embodying the spirit of goodwill. I see myself as more spiritual than religious, focusing on the way we behave with each other as a representation of love and goodness. This is something I try to carry into my daily life and, importantly, into my teaching.
As Pilates teachers, our role is not just to guide movement but to connect with the people in front of us. Whether it’s in the studio or in daily interactions, our behaviours and first impressions matter. It might be something as simple as holding the door for someone.
When they acknowledge the gesture, it creates a positive connection. When they don’t, it can be frustrating, but it’s also an opportunity to remain grounded in kindness. These little moments are reminders of the power of awareness and connection.
In the studio, that same awareness applies. When we work with clients, we gather information from their bodies, their energy, and their responses. Each hello and interaction gives us insight, and as teachers, we have the privilege of responding with care, guidance, and attentiveness. It’s not just about teaching Pilates; it’s about fostering an environment of trust, understanding, and progress.
This Christmas, whether you celebrate with family, friends, or even through quiet moments on your own, take time to reflect. Whether your celebration is filled with food and laughter or with rest and rejuvenation, allow yourself to feel the joy of the season. And remember, the spirit of Pilates extends beyond the studio. It’s in how we meet people, how we connect, and how we bring goodness into the world.
Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful Christmas. We are taking a break now and will return on January 2nd, ready to continue our journey and exploration together. Let’s celebrate and then come back refreshed for an exciting year ahead!
