Pilates Thoughtful Tuesday: Seeing the Beauty We Often Miss

Ever think about how butterflies can’t see their own wings? They have these incredible colours and patterns that we admire, photograph, and associate with transformation and beauty. But the butterfly? It never gets to enjoy what we all see.
And that got me thinking. Aren’t we all a bit like that?
In our Pilates teaching, in our daily lives, we’re often blind to the very things that others appreciate most about us. We’re busy adjusting springs, checking posture, planning the next progression, and sometimes we forget how powerful the smallest things can be. A calm voice. A moment of encouragement. A well-timed cue that just clicks with someone.
The same goes for our clients. They’re often trying to fix something they think is wrong, maybe a rounded shoulder or a stiff lower back, when in fact the journey they’re on is already inspiring. And they don’t even know it.
Think about your closest friends or the teachers you admire. Chances are, the qualities you love most about them are things they’re completely unaware of. That little laugh, their way of making people feel seen, their passion when they teach, it’s just who they are. They don’t even realise it.
So today, let’s pause and remember:There’s so much beauty in who we are that we’ll probably never fully see for ourselves. But that doesn’t mean it’s not there. Others see it. They feel it. It matters.
Take a breath, stand tall, and remind yourself just like our clients need reminding that you're more than enough, just as you are.
Thought for today: What’s something kind or uplifting someone has said about you lately? Did you believe them? Maybe it’s time to start.
